Chapter 1
Jennifer Cooper was tall and regal. She had perfect posture, shoulder length blonde hair and blue eyes. She was listening to music while she worked in her home office. She owned a real estate company named Jennifer’s Real Estate and had six employees. Someone was pounding on her door. She had finished her work and was turning off her computer. She quickly moved her chair back and stood up and walked into her living room stretching as she walked and answered the door.
Her best friend and next-door neighbor was standing in her doorway in tears. She was, petite with dark brown hair and big green eyes. Her hair was short and curled around her head. She was always neatly
dressed and in a good mood. But not today, her eyes were red and her nose was running. She was thirty-five years old. “Emily what happened?”
“I got fired today.”
“What!”
“I got downsized not only me but half of the staff. I was the only Junior Executive and now…..” She burst out crying anew. “Jenny what am I going to do. I can’t live on unemployment my house payments alone won’t be covered,” she put her head down and sobbed some more.
Jennifer ran into the bathroom and grabbed a box of tissue and placed the box in her lap. Emily grabbed several of the tissues and started mopping her eyes and grabbed more and blew her nose.
Jennifer said, breathe in your nose and exhale to the count of five. Emily did that a few times and found she could breathe again calmly.
“Emily, you know the saying when God closes one door another opens.”
“Yes, I heard that but I’ve worked there for ten years. I went from clerical, to secretary, to junior executive.
“You have great skills you can get a job anywhere.”
“As a typist,” raising her voice. I have a brain.”
“Well, what is wrong with that? Then you can work your way up in the company and…”
“Become a junior executive again. So, when the economy takes a dive, I’ll be the first to go.”
“I’m not twenty anymore.”
“No and you’re not over the hill either,” Jennifer smiled.
Chapter 2
A knock at the door interrupted the conversation. Jennifer opened the door and was astonished to find two men in military uniform one tall and one short. The uniform was familiar to Jennifer. The tall man said, “Princess Jennifer Cologne.”
Jennifer almost fainted. Her face turned chalk white. “Who are you and what do you want?”
This is the correct address and this is your picture Princess Jennifer,” and he bowed.
